4th Day of Taking Notes

Yesterday in class, we took more notes on the power point of Cultural Geography. We had little discussions and a lot of notes covered. Plus, we heard Mr.Schick and his daughter do a rap about slum dog millionaire to Travie McCoy- Billionaire. It wasn't half bad. Plus it was very funny when Mr.Schick rapped. He was spitting bars. OK so ill get to the notes.

  • Christianity- 2.2 billion people.
  • Locations- Europe; Americas
  • Denominations= Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Church, Protestants ( Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans...)
  • Jesus Christ is the founder.
  • Bible is obviously the holy book.
  • Jesus is both human and divine - son of God;  he led a vicious life, he was crucified, died, and buried, resurrected. Hes in heaven with God.

  • Denominations= Sumis ( 75%-90%), Shiites (10%-20%).

  • Beliefs- Monotheistic, Abrahamic, Five Pillars (Testimony, prayer, alms-giving, fasting, pilgrimage.) 
  • Muslims see their purpose in life as serving and submitting to Allah (God), and observing Islamic Law.

  • Called Hindu's.

  • Holy book; The Vedas- Eternal truths revealed to ancient sages; Composed in verse form (meant to be sung and easily memorized).
  • No founder- (points of view (wisdom) is the founder.
  • Probably the oldest religion.
  • Less a religion, more like a way of life.
  • reincarnation- A new soul enters a new body and leaves the old one.
  • Buddhism- 500 million to 1.5 billion
  • Called Buddhists.
  • Locations- Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, Japan. There are 1.2 million Buddhists in the U.S.
  • Founder- Siddhartha Gautama.
  • Denominations- Tibetan, Zen, Theravada, Amidist.
