Exams tomorrow

Currently im studying for my 2 exams. So i think ill do very good and get a great grade on both of them because my blogs are well organized and loaded with details. We just asked questions in class today about the exams. I think the essays will be the most challenging part of the test. I still don't know which 2 im going to do yet. I'm so tired and bored. I hate studying for these exams. But the good thing that comes out of this is great knowledge and a lot of time  off for the holidays. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Well got to get back to studying. Wish me good luck for tomorrow. :)

Fridays Class

On Fridays class, we reviewed for the mid-term exams. We went over both tests and corrected our answers if we needed to. After we were done checking our test, Mr. Schick let us jeep the scan trons and the test so it would be easier to review for the mid-term. Also in Fridays class i read most of the questions out loud and answered them for the peers in my class so that they could review and get a good grade on the mid-term. I'm excited for all of the mid-terms because im going to study really hard and hopefully ace all of them! I'm thankful that i don't have to do a make up test because i have a really busy schedule with sports and other events happening. I hope i can keep this grade up and have a great semester one. If i don't see anyone at school,  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

TEST TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I took the test and got a 91%. This was the best score in the class and i was actually NOT surprised because i studied hard and got the notes i missed. I stood up to 12:15 studying, and it paid off. Anyways the questions were fairly difficult. I was not expecting that some of the questions to be actual questions from the movie. I payed attention to the movie so im confident i got all of those questions right. Next up, we have exams. I haven't started studying for any exams yet so i better get on it. The religion questions were somewhat difficult. Since i missed the Buddhism and Judaism slides, those were the only two that were somewhat difficult. Also tomorrow i have a wrestling match, so hopefully ill do good in that. Well there's really nothing else to write about.

Part 3 ( The Last Part ) of the Movie

Today in class, we watched the rest of the movie. Luckily i didn't miss anything from Tuesdays class. But anyways there was a lot that happened in the last part. We started off when Jamal punched Salim in the face but then Salim wanted to help him. Jamal sneaks in to the Head Gangsters house to see Lakita. She tells him to get out but he wouldn't because he said he loved her and wanted her to go with him. If Jamal got caught, he would probably get killed. Then Lakita sneaks out one time to see Jamal and talk but the Head gangster realizes she left and chases after her. She gets caught and Jamal tries everything to get her back but they trap her in a car and Salim is in the car with other people. Then In the Gangsters house, Salim tries to help Lakita. So he gives her his keys to the car and his cellphone. She drives off and gets caught in traffic but then realizes Jamal is on tv. She watches him make a phone call but Lakita doesn't know he is calling his brothers phone which is in Lakitas car. She runs back and answers it and Jamal is relieved to hear her voice but she doesn't know the answer to the question. Meanwhile the gangster is trying to figure out where Lakita is and then realizes Salim gave her his car. So he gets trapped in the bathroom and fills the tub up with money and sits in it, waiting to die. He kills the head gangster but then the backup gangsters kill him in the tub with money. After that Jamal ends up winning the grand money but the host of the show thinks hes cheating so they take him to police office but they finally let him go. There Lakita and Jamal are finally reunited and do a big DANCE PARTY at the end.

Part 2 of Slum dog Millionaire

We watched a lot of the movie in Mr. Schick's class today. The big thing i saw in the movie today was when Salim and Jamal grew up to be teenagers. Jamal was the calm brother. Salim turned into like a gangster and was threatening his brother so now they hate each other. In the beginning they worked together by stealing food and begging for money. Then they gave fake stories about the Taj Mahal to visitors which they made money off of. Plus they stole shoes at the Taj Mahal and soled them for money. In the beginning, the escaped from a camp but left the girl behind which they found her a couple years later when Salim shot the guy who was in control of her. They rode the trains stealing food and living off of it. The final thing i remember watching is when he gave $100 to the blond kid. he knew all of the answers to "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." because of his past experiences.

Embedding my YouTube Video on The French National Anthem

    SlumpDog Millionaire

The difference between India's culture (Mumbai) and American culture is there is no space in India. In America, there is a lot of room. Also there is no sanitation in Mumbai. There are mountains of trash and rivers with trash and the kids bathe in it. In the U.S. there is not a lot of poverty. We have clean sanitation and clean bath water. Also in India, some kids don't have parents. They wander by themselves with their friends or siblings. There are a lot of orphans. In the U.S, kids usually have parents and kids don't wander off from their parents. Also they trade a lot in markets and their is a lot of noise. People don't really trade at markets in the U.S. We usually just go and get our own stuff at stores and pay for it. Another thing is their is not a lot of jobs in India. There are a ton of people who are homeless. In the U.S we have some poor people, but not a s much as India. Plus we have a ton of more jobs in the U.S. Finally the schools are jam packed and the teachers are aggressive to their students sometimes. In the U.S,

    Schick is out!

Today i finished my homework because i already did the spotify activity on Sunday night. I honestly don't know what to write about again. There were only two people out today. Also the substitute was very nice but was sort of forceful. Anyways that rapped up today's class basically. If Mr. Schick is sick, i hope he gets better.

    Hard Work Pays Off!

Since i did the first two assignments for Human Geo on Sunday night, i didn't have to do anything today in class except blog. I think i did solid on the two assignments. I honestly don't know what to write about because i did nothing. Since i got bored, i decided to get my earphones and listen to music while i blog. I helped one of my partners, Kyle, with the project by helping him with the YouTube part of the assignment. Well this is basically what i did and Mr.Schick said it was alright to write this much!

    Start to Cultural Geography

Today's class we started cultural geography! Today's class was fun and hardworking. In the beginning of class Mr.Schick explained how his JC Academic Team won the tournament. Also he told us what to do when your there. Apparently, you hit a buzzer like the game shows and also if you got a question right ( or something ) the same person gets 3 questions in a row and if you get it wrong there is no penalty. Anyways we did a little trivia quiz and i was the best in the class. The questions were kind of challenging at first but then i understood them. I was surprised that i got mostly all of the questions right ( except the three religion ones lol). The second part of the class was starting on the power point for Cultural geography. Some notes i took were, that we went over a map that showed what people call (soda). people in the north call it pop and people in the south call it coke except a part in Florida where old people move to make life easier. the old people call it soda as well as California and most of the North Eastern states. Another note i took is Cultural Characteristics - Are parts of a groups everyday life. they are the ideas and themes which the group will teach to all members. These same characteristics can also link or divide a region. Examples of cultural characteristics are language, religion, and ethnic heritage. That's all the notes we got to in today's class. I'm excited for tomorrows class!

    Part 2- French National Anthem

Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
    Against us tyranny's
    Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!
    Refrain
    Grab your weapons, citizens!
    Form your battalions!
Let us march! Let us march!
    May impure blood
    Water our fields!
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
This horde of slaves, traitors, plotting kings,
    What do they want?
    For whom these vile shackles,
    These long-prepared irons? (repeat)
Frenchmen, for us, oh! what an insult!
    What emotions that must excite!
It is us that they dare to consider
    Returning to ancient slavery!
    What! These foreign troops
Would make laws in our home!
    What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would bring down our proud warriors! (repeat)
    Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brows would bend beneath the yoke!
    Vile despots would become
    The masters of our fate!
    Tremble, tyrants! and you, traitors,
    The disgrace of all groups,
    Tremble! Your parricidal plans
Will finally pay the price! (repeat)
Everyone is a soldier to fight you,
If they fall, our young hero's,
    France will make more,
    Ready to battle you!
    Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Bear or hold back your blows!
    Spare these sad victims,
    Regretfully arming against us. (repeat)
    But not these bloodthirsty despots,
But not these accomplices of Bouillé,
All of these animals who, without pity,
Tear their mother's breast to pieces!
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
    Sacred love of France,
    Lead, support our avenging arms!
    Liberty, beloved Liberty,
    Fight with your defenders! (repeat)
    Under our flags, let victory
    Hasten to your manly tones!
    May your dying enemies
See your triumph and our glory!
    Refrain
    We will enter the pit
    When our elders are no longer there;
There, we will find their dust
And the traces of their virtues. (repeat)
Much less eager to outlive them
    Than to share their casket,
We will have the sublime pride
Of avenging them or following them!
    Refrain

    Comments-
    • It has a lot of the same rhythm in most of the song.
    • It was composed by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle.
    • There are wind instruments in the piece of music.
    • The lyrics are very well written and pretty simple to understand.
    • A lot of brass instruments playing.
    • Everything is on key and flows well.
    • It has a happy mood.
    • The anthem is called the "The Marseillaise"

    Test Today!!!

Today in class we had a test today. Honestly i was so nervous for this test because i stood up till 1:00 studying for this test, the health test, and the English test. Having all of those classes in a row was not helpful either! I'm hoping i did good on this test and the others. When i got the test, it looked hard but i realized i actually knew all of this stuff from studying. It was actually one of the easiest tests I've taken in this class (so far). I'm just glad everything over and i can enjoy my weekend! All my hard work actually paid off. Taking notes, asking questions and doing my homework was all a part of my success. A lot of people turned their test in early so im guessing they thought it was easy also. I thought i prepared great for this test and i hope i can keep it up for the future tests! According to my country France this is how you say a "successful unit,
    une unité réussie!

    Final Presentations 11/12/14

Today in class the last of the people in our class presented their projects. Thank God its over lol. It was so long and people wrote so many words on the one slide that were kind of pointless. Anyways not all of it was pointless. You just had to find the important parts and write it down. Also we have Mr.Schick's Google slides presentation that he got from our notes and some of his knowledge. Anyways, again, i will jot down the notes i took today from the presentations!

    • Russia
    • Dmitry Medvedev is the prime minister but was the 3rd president (2008-2012) when Putin was the prime minister.
    • Medvedev is Putin's lap dog.
    • Bicameral=two houses
    • The main political party is called United Russia.
    • Countries are afraid to attack Russia because of Russia's nuclear weapons and aggressive military.
    • Brazil
    • Federal republic
    • You can be elected 2 times but you need a four year break.
    • Military Junta- Military dictatorship. She protested and got tortured in jail for 3 years.
    • People are happy with Dilma Rouseff in control.
    • Mexico
    • Nieto is part of the Institutional Revolutionary party.
    • Mexican drug cartel makes 19-29 billion dollars.
    • Kills over 100,000 people.

    Studying for the test tomorrow

Today in class we had a substitute because Mr.Schick had to go somewhere. Anyways all we did today was study for the test. Mr. Schick put a Google slides thing with all the information that we needed to know for our test. I studied the first part of the notes and i listened to music while i was studying. I don't know why but when i listen to music im way more focused on the notes that im studying. I thought it was really nice of Mr.Schick to make all of those notes on the power point for us. It really helps a lot. I think i will do decent on the test. I hope i get an A, but the worst i would like to get would be a 83.4869374652% . The substitute was really chill and cool today. He didn't bother us and when he did talk, he was really nice. Hopefully i will study hard tonight and get a great grade on the test. I think im ready for it!

    Part 3 Presentations

Today we did the same thing we have been doing, take notes on the Google slides. Mr.Schick helped the groups out by adding information about certain topics. Today there was a lot of writing because there were about 4 groups that went. Every group seemed to have a ton of information that they couldn't explain in simple words. Anyways some notes i took today were...

    • Assad won election because he threatened the citizens that if they didn't vote for him, he would bomb them and their house.
    • The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has no term limits.
    • Putin is part of the United Russia party.
    • Assad had a poor family growing up.
    • In Germany the president can elect the Prime Minister.
    • David Cameron became the Prime Minister of the U.K in 2010.
    • Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany is the leader of the Christian Democratic union.
    • Assad changed the term years from 4 to 7 so he can be in office until 2021.
    • In Germany, people are elected by the Bundestag ( sort of like congress in the U.S but bigger and more powerful.)
    • The prime Minister of the U.k ( David Cameron has no term limits.

    Fridays Class Presentations 11/8/14

Yesterday in class, about 3 or 4 more groups share their presentations about their country's government. There was a lot of important details in some of the presentations. If there was a big idea the group had in their Google slides, Mr.Schick would stop and start a conversation about it. Also he would tell us some notes that the groups had left out (sometimes) that were very important for our test. Some of the notes i took in class were...

    • Canada had a parliamentary democracy.
    • Also Canada has 5 party's!
    • Japan has a parliamentary system, constitutional monarchy, and is a unitary state.
    • In Japan only the government (diet) votes for who should be the leader.
    • Also the Chinese leader Xi Jinping got 2397 votes!!! obviously they liked him ( BTW the houses vote, not the people).
    • A lot of people who run in the government usually have a famous sibling, father, mother, (relative) that passes down the government information to them. Or people just recognize their last name.
    • A prime minister can be elected as young as the age of 18 years young.
    • The main ways to get a leader out of office is impeachment, re-election, and the worst way there is, assassination.

Also Mr. Schick had a big rant about assassination. He doesn't think its right. I agree with him. Its not the best way to get someone out of office. If the president is killing his people, and messing up the economy, and not listening to his people ( basically being the worst president their possibly is), i would take assassination as an option. Its not right but if worst comes to worst it would be an option. I'm not a murderer im just stressing the fact that if it does happen i would think this. Anyways this sums up Fridays class.

    Sharing our project!!

Today in class, my group and i shared our project on France's government. We worked on it for a while and since i was sick on Monday, i didn't  plan on how to share it with my group. Anyways it was hard to speak because i was sick and i lost my voice. Mr.Schick was making fun of me because of my voice. I couldn't help it though. When i tried to talk loud, i just coughed and i couldn't stop and it was just hard to speak in general. Today are group did good though. We explained everything and connected it usually with the U.S government. We explained about Sarkozy and Valls ( the prime minister). Also we explained the Republic government and how it works. Also we explained how many years the president can be in office and who were the main targets running in the election of 2017 ( President Hollande is running again for his second term). After we were done, Mr.Schick said we did very good even though we started out a little bumpy but we manged to steer it back on track. After us Elle and Gabby went for 5 minutes. Then just like that, class ended.

    Cancer Day 11/4/14

Today in class, well not in class, but anyways our class went on a field trip to the hallway to examine and learn about the different cancer that could affect us. We learned to wear sun screen to protect us from skin cancer. I went in a booth that had UV rays to show the spots on my face where there was oily skin, dry skin, and places where cancerous skin was. The bad skin was little dots though. Also i saw a real lung and a smokers lung which was black and disgusting. They pumped up both of them and the healthy lung expanded farther than the black lung and just looked way better. Also the guy at the testicular cancer table taught us about testicular cancer and what to check for in your balls. We got little diagrams of a lump ball and a regular ball in the scrotum. The final thing I learned about was breast cancer. it can be found in men and women, but women are more likely to get it.

    Sick Day 11/3/14

I was sick today so i have no idea what happened. Ill get my work tomorrow.

    Research part 3 10/29/14

Today in class we kept working on the project. We found out more information about the prime minister, ways to get the president out of office, and a lot about the actual government.  I tried to show Mr.Schick some pictures of my bloody nose but he refused to look at them lol. Also i found a lot more about Manuel Valls ( the prime minister of France). Anyways, today's class was kind of boring but that's how it should of been because we are doing a project. Also i had to leave 5 minutes early for my away game at McDonough. We listened to music softly as we did this project because we needed something to keep us going. It added a little spice to the project and made it more fun. Its nice having the extra person in our group because she helps a lot. Hopefully she will get a good grade with us!

    Research part 2

Today in class, we worked again on the Google slides presentation. We got a new person in our class. Her name is Kelsey Boyle and she chose to work with Kyle and I. It was nice because we needed the extra help. Mr.Schick helped us a little bit by telling us some important information about Frances government. He told us information about the past president and things about how to get the president out of office. Also he told us some other crucial information. Today's class was kind of stressful because of all the important information we forgot to add. But we managed to get most of it done. We added color to the Google slides so it looks more appealing. That's basically all we did in class today. There really wasn't anything different we did

Research with Kyle on France Government

Today in class we picked partners and worked on a power point ( Google slides) on a specific country and its government. Kyle and I decided to be partners which was funny because we had the two highest grades in the class. We had a total of eight slides which was pretty long for this project. We answered how long President Francois Hollande had been in office and what type of government France had and ETC. We found out that their were 5 republics during Frances government time. After that we added Mr.Schick so he could edit and look at our project. I'm hoping i can get a good grade on this. I personally think today was long but was pretty easy to do.

    POP QUIZ!!! :(

Today in class we had a pop quiz on the topics we studied on. Well unfortunately i didn't study. But i knew a lot of the stuff on the test. Hopefully i got an A. hes handing the quizzes out right now. So i kind of shaking. I got an 87%. I have a 91 in his class so hopefully that will bring me to a 90. im so nervous right now. I just hope that it stays as an A because then it would mean i got straight A's. The quiz was fair and not to hard. I think the shadows had fun listening to peoples reactions when Mr.Schick showed them their test. There were 16 questions. I guessed on one of them correctly so I had some good luck. Mr.Schick studied to be a priest, but he became a Human Geo teacher that gives our random pop quizzes to ruin kids grades. :). The final thing i did is play games on the computer. That's basically what we did today!

    Wednesdays Class 10/22/14

Today in class we went over facts that we didn't find the day before. It was kind of the same stuff we went over yesterday. Some facts that were brought up today was that the Prime Minister of Israel (Benjamin Netanyahu) brother was killed trying to save a few Iraelis in an Ugandian hostage. Also the Emperor of China never graduated college because he got to be emperor. I'm pretty sure everyone would pick Emperor lol. One of the last things i remember from class is that the Mexican president is the second most wealthy man in Mexico. A drug lord is the #1 wealthiest man in Mexico. They sell a ton of Heroin. Since they make a lot of money they tell the Mayor and other officials that they will help them out if they don't say anything about the Heroin, They said that Americans should stop buying it, so they'll stop making it.

    Today's Class 10/21/14

Today in class we went over the HW from last night. He asked some students to share what they wrote down. For about everyone of the facts we had a discussion over it. Some of the facts were that Dilma Rousseff had thyroid cancer. It is gone now. Also that Vladimir Putin tries to act tough in pictures and doing tough things like Judo. He is a black belt though, so you might want to watch out :). The fact that i came up with is that Shimon Peres is 91 years old! Enrique Pena Nieto has two wives and the first one died. Also he partially won because of his looks. The chancellor for Germany is the 5th most powerful woman in the world which is pretty insane. Thats basically what we went over in class today.

      Fridays Class 10/18/14

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class, we went over the test. I thought i did very well on it. I got a 90% on the test. I got three questions wrong i should of got right. The last one is the one where i had a question about. The population pyramids had a different number of populations on the scale. I thought the U.S.A showed the most TFR than the African countries. I got that wrong because of the scale difference. Mr.Schick said it didn't matter about the scale. it mattered about the pyramid and its ages of population. The test was very fair. The weren't any hard parts that we never went over in class. You just had to study and basically, you would do fine. I was actually surprised that i got one of the best grades in class. The next blog i do is the 12 countries and leaders. I actually need to do it because i have an 89 in his class and this HW will bring me up to an A hopefully.

      The make up test today

Today in class, i had to take a make-up test. I honestly thought it was easy. Since i knew how to use the CIA World Fact book, i flew by the front of it. I studied the definitions of the words so that part of the test wasn't really challenging. The population pyramids was simple. I knew African countries are having many babies and there is way less old people. I knew Germany had a low baby rate but a mediocre middle age and up rate. Finally, the U.S was basically right in the middle of both of them. I used process of elimination. It made things so much easier. The push factors was a little challenging but i hope i wrote my push factors well enough for him to understand. The pull factors were the easiest. Since i did the United States, i knew there were a ton of things to pull people into the U.S. Overall since i studied, the test was easy and im pretty sure i got an easy A.

PS: If my handwriting was bad, im sorry. Its tough to write with a broken thumb on my dominant hand lol.

      10/11/14

On Friday i was not in class because of the retreat. I plan to take the test on Tuesday at 3:00. I might have soccer so i got to talk to Mr. Schick about it.

      Preparing for the test 10/8/14

Today in class we reviewed for the test. We basically just went over the vocabulary for the test. Some stuff we went over today is the crude birth/death rate. Also how to find the rate of natural increase. Also countries need infrastructure to become a developed nation. The birth rate minus the death rate is the rate of natural increase. Another thing we talked about is immigration (people coming to the country) and emigration (people leaving the country). The net immigration rate is found when you take immigration and subtract it from emigration. The last thing we talked about is push factors and pull factors. Some push factors for leaving a country is war, disease, leadership, and religion. Some pull factors are a good economy, land, good leadership, and not involved in any war.

      Class 10/7/14

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we got our spotify accounts and codes to redeem our membership.  He called us up one by one and told us our codes.  He told us to say the code back to him just to make sure it was correct.  Some kids messed up so Mr. Schick told them the correct order and they finally got it.  About three or four people in the class had to wait one hour to redeem their membership, like me because the website spotify, thinks that someone(s) are hacking the website.  After everyone got their codes, he let us take our phones out and listen to music.  I thought today's class was very interesting and easy.  Also, in the class people were dancing to their music or other people's music.  The girls were very annoying in today's class.  I'm just glad that class ended before I got more annoyed with the girls.  Overall, today's class was fun and chill. I'm writing this with a broken thumb. The cast takes over my full thumb and arm. Plus I have a sling.

      Class Today 10/6/14

Today in class, we were still trying to figure out if the U.S is the best country in the world. A ton of people in the class came up with statistics of the U.S compared to other countries. Some facts that i found interesting in today's class was, that the U.S is third for telephones- to mobile cellular. I thought the U.S would be first or second. It turns out that India is second. I didn't think India have that kind of technology in their country. Another fact i found interesting was  that China is the number one in electricity production. I thought the U.S would be number one in electricity because we have so many technological advances, so we need more electricity to work the product. I realized during today's lesson that there is no perfect country. Each country has its positives and negatives. I would say that the U.S is better than most countries. There are however some countries like India and China that are probably equal to our country.

      The video 10/4/14

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class our class watched a video about our country. It was a TV show but he only showed the first episode of it. The video was about people always thinking that the U.S is the best country in thew world. When the camera went to the one reporter. He went on and on about how the U.S is not the best country in the world ANYMORE. The reporter explained all of these statistics he knew in his head about how the U.S is not the best country in the world anymore. Everyone was stunned in the crowd except one person who was telling him to say that the U.S was not the best country. After the reporters got off the air, the other two reporters were stunned that the one reporter said his rampage on TV. After we watched the video Mr.Schick took a vote on of people in our class that thought that the U.S is the best country in the world. about 95% of the class voted that the U.S is not the best country in the world.  He picked on students to explain for their reasoning. Someone said that people are too lazy to get off their butts and find a job so Obama keeps taxing us and the lazy people are just getting money for nothing. then Mr.Schick told us a story about him helping a homeless man.

      Population Pyramids 2 10/1/14

Today in Mr. Schick's class we went over the other half of the video and took notes. Also we had to use my laptop to present the video to the class because Mr.Schick's laptop wasn't working. It was pretty cool sitting up at the main desk controlling things :). Anyways, some of the notes I took today are, that we talked a lot about Cuban people coming to America. He said that its hard for Americans to get into Cuba nowadays for vacations or other stuff. Also its hard for Cubans to get into America to see family and start a new life. If a Cuban gets on Florida land and the coast guard or whatever doesn't catch you your free to do whatever you want. If they catch you and your not on Florida land you get arrested and taken back to Cuba. Also we talked about Russia. Russia's old people are not as high in population because Russia lost millions of men in World War 2. Finally we talked about China. People in china thinks boys are better then girls. So since they can only have one child, the parents are always hoping for a boy. The one child rule started in the 40's or 50's. Thats the main topics we touched on today in class.

What we Did in Class Today 9/30/14

Today in Mr.Schick's class we reviewed the population pyramids video and talked about it. Also we took notes on the important stuff that Mr.Schick told us to take notes on. Some important notes I took were, there are three parts in the population pyramid;pre-reproductive (0-14), reproductive (15-44), and post-reproductive ( 45-100+). The three different phases countries go through are pre-industrialization, Industrialization, and post-industrialization. The country Rwanda, has a ton of babies but a bad life expectancy. The baby boom plays a big part of the U.S's population pyramid. It shows that 50-60 year old are popular among the U.S because of the baby boom. Mr.Schick told us it was normal for a lady who is married to have five kids during the baby boom. Usually the women didn't go to college. the men just went to work and the women watched over their kids.

      When Mr.Schick Was Out 9/29/14

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we had a substitute and we just followed the directions of what to do today in class on Mr. Schick's blog. Today in class we watched a video on Population Pyramids. It was actually very interesting. It showed the populations of a country and gave specific ages and how many people are in that age range. It showed that Nigeria is growing faster than Russia and its only 1/6 of its size! I thought that was pretty crazy. The population pyramid is divided by gender. The population pyramid is divided into three age groups, Pre-reproductive (0-14), Reproductive (15-44), and Post-Reproductive (45-up). After the video i went to the website of the population pyramids and went to a lot of countries It was interesting to see a lot of the countries differ from other countries. I was surprised Africa had so many babies arriving, rather then Russia. After that i answered the multiple choice questions. my answers were A,D,C,A. Finally, after all of this I went to the last website Mr. Schick posted on his blog. It was interesting that this website could keep track of the population of thew world so accurately. Overall class was a success today :)

      Fridays Class 9/26/14

Yesterday in Mr.Schick's class, we went over the CIA fact book and facts about it. Some of the other students shared some facts they found interesting including me. Also we went over the some of the test for the people who weren't here on Wednesday. Lastly, we looked at a video and discussed what Americans did if there was a nuclear bomb attack on the U.S, just in case the Soviet union sent a bomb our way. If they did send a bomb, the children in school would get under their desks and put their hands over their heads (which wouldn't really do anything now that we look at it). Some of the facts the students presented was that JC found something about the Antarctican military. It stated no military action could happen on Antarctica. Another fact we found is that someone looked up the population growth rate.. It stated that the ISIS group forced people out of Libya and killed a lot of people in Libya. So Libya was negative in the population growth rate ratio for the country. Since all the people fled to the neighboring countries, Lebanon is the highest percentage of population growth rate because people are fleeing to Lebanon so they can stay away from ISIS so the population is increasing rapidly.

      Reviewing of the Test

Today in Mr. Schick's class we reviewed the test we took about a week ago. I personally thought i should of done better. I was hoping for an A because the test really didn't seem to hard because ti studied and I had my blog. On problem six, I had no clue what the answer was. It turned out to be March 1899. Also, number 11 was another one i got wrong. I felt pretty bad for myself for not knowing those questions. I personally didn't like the written responses because i felt that we didn't go over the questions a lot in class. I thought today's class was boring, but we really needed to know the answers because there could be a mid-term or anther big test that we have to know them for. I left at problem 14 because i had an away game at Mt Saint Joe. Tomorrow i will ask my friends about the other questions I missed, and if I have to take notes on the questions I missed

      Terms and Concepts 9/22/14

Today in class Mr.Schick went over the power point again but we learned different notes. Some notes we took today are; Crude Birth Rate- The number of births per thousand of the population. Crude Death Rate- The number of deaths per thousand of the population. RNI- Rate of Natural Increase. Net Migration Rate- The difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. An excess of persons entering the country is net immigration. It is written as a positive number. An excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration. It is written as a negative number. In my last blog i already explored the CIA fact book and i posted updates to your power point. Also i already listed facts i found interesting.

Population, Migration, and the CIA World Factbook

What we did in class is take notes on a power point. Some notes we took, are that over 7 billion people on the are on the planet right now. 90% of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. In the year 1804, it was the first year to hit the population of 1 billion. The world today is increasing 1 billion people every 12, 13 years. The average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year is Life expectancy. Monaco is the number 1 place for life expectancy. About 374,000 people are born every day. Approximately, 7.2 billion people are living in this world right now. The CIA website has a ton of definitions of words. The CIA website has jobs for people who are interested in the CIA internships. I did do this at 11:47, so i did complete this.

      The Test Today

Today's test was pretty easy except the first two paragraph short essays. I personally thought there was to much about Ancient Greece. He should of included more about globalization and Did you know 3.0. It was a great length though and i thought i had enough time to complete it which was nice. Also i liked using our blogs for the test. It just proved that if you did your blog right, you would get a great grade. If you didn't do your blog correctly, you would probably get bad grade. So with that being said, Mr.Schick would see who's doing it correctly and who's not. Also i thought we should of reviewed a little bit more about Ancient Greece before the test (yesterday). Overall the test i thought was very fair. If you did bad, it probably your fought. So if i got a bad grade i can blame only myself. But i thought i did very good so hopefully that wont happen :).

      Final day to study

While Mr.Schick was out today, i worked with Kyle on quiz-let. He wrote ten random questions and so did I. I listened to music as i did my work. I used my notes to help me come up with the questions so it was very easy. Once i was done with the questions, i waited for Kyle to finish. Once we were both done we switched computers and tried our hardest to answer the questions.I forgot to add, our substitute dressed up like daphanie in Scooby-Doo. I got most of the questions right but i definitely had to study more when i get home. Once we were done i studied my notes in my composition books. I'm feeling i should get an A on tomorrows test if i study a lot. As soon as i knew it, class ended and i was headed to soccer. Sorry if i didn't write a lot. I don't know how i can write a lot about today because all we did is quiz-let.

      Review for the test

Today in class we went over some of the material that is going to be used on the test. Mr. Schick called people to the class to make up questions, so he would see if he would use them for the test or not. He also gave us some hints for some of the questions on the test. The topics that are going to be on the test are, Did you know 3.0, Americanization and Globalization, A Message to Garcia, and the Greek words. We also talked about the future of watches. When your at a restaurant, you don't have to wait for the waiter to take your credit card and pay the money for the food. Now some restaurants have a credit card swiper with them so everything goes quicker, and the amount of money for the food transfers to your watch and manages all of it. Lastly we talked about people not having to drive a car. you just type in where you want to go and it takes you there. It asks that if you want to make any stops during your trip and you either hit yes or no.

      Golbalization and Americanization

Today in class, Mr.Schick went over Globalization and Americanization. The definition of globalization is " the connection of different parts of the world." Globalization results in the expansion of international, cultural, economic, and political activities. We also talked about the life expectancy in China before the American fast food businesses came to China. China's life expectancy went down because the of the American Fast Food industry. Life expectancy is the average period a person or group may expect to live. Also we talked about cigarettes. Cigarettes are used way more in China then the U.S. Another main topic we talked about is the Silk Road. The Silk Road was a road(s) from China to trade silk with other people, countries, etc. Some forms of Globalization are the spread of religion, electricity, and languages. The last thing we talked about is that BCE is used now as Before Common Era.

What we talked about in class today 9/10/14

In class today we talked about raising the minimum wage from $7.50 to $10.10. I think this would hurt the economy because the business would have to waste 3 dollars more on everyone's paycheck so the money they get for their business to keep running will go down because the wage is higher. This would result in a lot of people getting laid off. We also talked about people from India coming to the U.S to get jobs. A lot of people will hire them because they will work for less, so the company doesn't have to pay them much and they receive greater income to their business. We talked about online dating too. We named dating sites like e harmony, farmers, and christian mingle. 1/8 couples meet online! Its easy for someone to catfish someone else on online dating so personally i don't think its a good idea to do it, but that's just me. Also we talked about is Chinese people are learning English as there second language. I think it would be cool because we could all communicate to each other and talk about new inventions and ideas and work together to make them. Lastly we talked about the #1 word that most languages use which is "okay (OK)."

      Did You Know ( 3 Facts )

That video in class was very interesting and was hard to only pick out 3 out of all the interesting facts, but i think i have them. The first fact is that China will soon become the #1 English speaking country in the world! To me, that's insane! My initial reaction when i saw this was shocked because almost all of the people in the USA speak English. Obviously China speaks Chinese. Its crazy that they teach English so young in China and there going to out number us one day! This change impacts my life because maybe when im alive, a ton of people from China will speak English and it might catch on and every country will learn English?! Also I will be able to understand a lot more Chinese people. The second fact is we are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist! My reaction to this was amazed because the country is so confident that they are going to invent stuff so future students could use the inventions for future jobs. This change impacts my life because teachers are going to teach me to do future jobs so i will hopefully have a good future job! :). The third fact is that today, the number of text messages sent and received everyday, exceeds the total population of the planet. My reaction to when i saw this was stunned because people text more then the population which is insane. This proves that technology is a huge part of our modern society today. This change impacts my life because im definitely a part of this fact because i text a lot of people usually everyday. Also the future will create better phones ( newer technology ) so there will probably be more texts everyday as the technology gets smarter. Technology plays 90% of my life because basically everything i do involves some kind of technology. Phones, computers, Refrigerator, air conditioning, lights, cars, music you name it. Almost everything involves technology these days. That's why we are such a superior country, and i hope we can keep that up going in to the future!

The Ancient Greeks and excellence REVISED

Agora- It was a Central spot in ancient Greek city-states. The literal meaning of the word is a gathering place or assembly. It was the center of artistic, athletic, spiritual, and political life of the city.

Arete- In its basic sense it means "excellence of any kind" The term may also mean "moral virtue". It also means living up to ones full potential (Doing your best).

Polis- Literally meaning "city" ( city-states) in Greek. It can also mean citizenship and body of citizens. It also means the central part.

The year 508 B.C- This was the year of the pre-Julian Roman calender. In the Roman Empire the year was known as Consulship of Poplicola and Tricipitinis. Also another huge thing that happened was THE BIRTH OF THE FIRST DEMOCRACY EVER!!!

Socrates- He was a classic Greek philosopher and credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy. He is known through accounts of classical writers, especially the writings of his students.

The death of Socrates-A 1787 oil on canvas painting by the French painter Jacques-Loius David This painting is a classical subject, in this case the execution of Socrates.Socrates has been convicted of corrupting the youth of Athens and introducing strange gods, and has been sentenced to die by drinking poison Hemlock.

The Socratic method- A form of inquiry and discussion between individuals based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and illuminate ideas.

What the Ancient Greeks meant if they called you and idiot-Idiocy was the natural state of ignorance into which all persons were born and its opposite, citizenship, was effected through formalized education. "Idiot" originally referred to "layman, person lacking professional skill", "person so mentally deficient as to be incapable of ordinary reasoning".

A Message to Garcia and Voting

Today in class we learned about the Message to Garcia. The story is about a man who was sent by president McKinley to send a message ( in an envelope)  to a man named Garcia. The story took place during the Spanish-American war. The story's theme was basically we need more people in the world who can get the job done without asking questions about it. Also in class we learned about voting. Our generation doesn't really care about voting because they think it doesn't affect them at all. It does! We learned in class that back then, you only had to be 21 to vote. People actually cared about voting. The reason  a ton of the seniors ( elders ) vote today is because they grew up during World War 2 and the Vietnam War. This means that voting for someone was a tough decision because each president had a different idea about the war going on, so it played a huge part of where America is today. Mr.Schick explained that we hoped we had an app to vote because we are so lazy. To be honest I don't think its a lot of effort to just vote. It takes about 15 minutes. I care about my future so when im 18 im definitely going to vote!

      5 Step action plan

Today in class Mr.Schick told us to come up with a 5 step action plan. So my first step is being organized. Organization to me is the important key to be successful. You need your locker to be neat so your not late to class and you don't want to get in trouble. Also bring all the right books to your class. If you forget a book you may fall behind in class. My next step to be successful is to be respectful to your teachers and classmates. If your respectful to them, they will be able to trust you and your classes will be so much easier because the teacher will like you. My third step is to do your homework right when you get home. If you wait till last minute your gonna do worse then if you did it earlier because your going to be more stressed out and your probably going to have more homework after your do one assignment and you don't want to stay up late at night doing your homework because you need the rest! Also you don't want to get a bad grade on your homework you did, and if you do that's not going to help your report card and academics. My fourth step is ask for help if you need it. If you need help on something ask the teacher. Don't be embarrassed to ask a question. If you are embarrassed to ask your not going to get the lesson or homework, so its best you ask and know what to do. My fifth step to being successful is to eat healthy and get a good nights rest. You always need 8 or more hours of sleep, and if you don't get that, the next day of school is not going to be fun. Also it you eat better you will feel better and good foods help your body. If you feel well your going to have fun in school and do great on the assignments. I know this was long but all of this stuff works for me! :).

What we learned in class today

Today in class Mr.Schick explained how to blog. We went over rules like he gives out no extra credit and we need to come prepared with a composition book, laptop, pencil, and an open mind. He also went over where he was throughout the day if we ever had to see him. He also read us part of the syllabus today and explained how many points tests.homework, quizzes, and participation etc. was.He also explained that if you rush your blog and its a bad blog you get maybe one point. If its a great blog and it looks good to him, you get 2 points. Those two points really add up to your grade ( That's what he said in class today ). Another thing he went over was the late work, and even if you didn't turn it in you get no points, but you still got to do it. That's all i remember from today's class.

      second day at JC

Today in class Mr.Schick explained how to blog. We went over rules like he gives out no extra credit and we need to come prepared with a composition book, laptop, pencil, and an open mind. He also went over where he was throughout the day if we ever had to see him. My first day at John Carroll was exciting and fun. I met a lot of new people and all my teachers were actually nice. Its pretty complicated right now getting used to the laptops but i think i will get the hang of it by next week hopefully. All of my mods were nice to have because i got to have a ton of time for lunch and to talk to my friends. All of the sophomores, juniors, and seniors were all nice and respectful. Also my adviser Mrs.Welsh is the best, shes so nice and friendly and the people in my advisory are awesome too. I know some of them from sports at John Carroll. The beginning of the day was pretty boring but other then that i felt i had a pretty good first day at John Carroll. I hope there are many more weeks to come that im successful in.
